The Rutgers University Debate Union (RUDU) put up another great performance at Fordham’s tournament, one of the largest of the year with 83 total teams. Two of Rutgers’ partnerships finished in the top ten.

Here’s the list of the accomplishments this weekend:
Chris Bergman & Ashley Novak – 6th Team [break to quarterfinals]
Dave Reiss & Kyle Bomeisl – 10th Team
Ashley Novak – 6th varsity speaker
Ashley Novak – 1st novice speaker

As is clearly evident, this was a breakout performance for novice Ashley Novak and sophomore partner Chris Bergman, who were easily the youngest team to make the elimination rounds at an “unopposed” tournament with almost every top-rated team this year present. With this achievement, Ashley will likely be the second rated novice speaker in the cumulative national rankings this year, as well as in the top forty of varsity speakers. She joins Dave and Kyle in the varsity speaker rankings, giving Rutgers three entries each on the TOTY, SOTY, and NOTY boards for the first time ever.

After a break for Thanksgiving, the semester will close with tournaments in Boston and Baltimore the first weekend of December. Rutgers will be “splitting” and attending both simultaneously.
