Second Group of Rutgers Novices Complete Retreat, First Meeting Tomorrow!

Twelve new novices spent all or part of the last three days in the Rutgers School of Communication and Information learning the fine art of parliamentary debating in preparation for the upcoming season. With the successful completion of this training, more novices have participated in a multi-day retreat than debated for the entire team last season.

Even more are expected to join the team at the team’s inaugural meeting, scheduled for 9:00 PM on Thursday, 9/1 in Murray Hall room 210. With all welcome to attend and over two-hundred people expressing some interest in debating at Rutgers, there’s little doubt that this will be the largest and most successful class in RUDU’s young but thriving history.

All are invited to attend tomorrow’s meeting. If you’re interested in joining but were unable to make a Retreat, tomorrow is the best time to start your Rutgers debate career.

And if you’re a Rutgers community member interested in seeing the team in action, two public debates are already pending for this September. On Monday, 9/19, RUDU will tackle questions of educational rights in a debate for Constitution Day. Two days later, on Wednesday, 9/21, RUDU will debate as part of the continuation of Project Civility at Rutgers. Further details for these events will be posted here as they become available.

In the meantime, RUDU is also preparing furiously for the opening of the official APDA season in nine days, at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Sign-ups for that tournament will take place at tomorrow’s meeting.
